Yesterday I thought I was at the end of my rope, hanging on by a toenail. Three nights without sleep took its toll on my patience and Jaden’s demeanor. He spent all day making an annoying whining noise that sounded just like Forest Gump making fun of the principal as he left Forest’s mother’s house –if you remember the scene it was just after his mother “convinced” the principal to allow Forest into the school for children without special needs.
This was enough to drive me nearly insane. My only hope for a moment of peace was during Jaden’s naps – the first of which I thought I’d wind down, and the second of which I thought I’d try to put a few brain cells back into place by napping along with him. That plan went as well as Hillary’s bid for president.
I called Neville around 3 in the afternoon and I must have sounded like I was over the edge. He promised to come home as quickly as possible after work. Thank God he’s understanding. He was home by 5:30. Whew.
So why the title of this message? A few months ago I signed myself up for a yoga class at the local high school. The class is twice a week, but I can only make it on Tuesdays because Neville works late on Thursdays. Two weeks ago I missed the class because I was waiting for the “coupon book” we need when we go to the class (only to find out later that I was supposed to pick it up at the first class). Last Tuesday class was canceled due to the snow. So this week was my first class.
I had never taken a yoga class before, even though for years I had promised myself I would. I didn’t realize what I was missing out on. By the time I got home, I was so relaxed and back in a ‘happy place’ that it was like I had never come close to losing it during the day. It was just what I needed.
Today should be easier (please??!!!) – Jaden slept most of the night last night- which means I slept most of the night last night. Jaden is in a much better mood today and hasn’t done the Gump-whine yet, which puts me in a better mood. Right now he’s playing with his lawn mower that Grandma Di and Grandpa gave him at Christmas – as long as he plays by himself I’ll get some of my own stuff done. Fingers are crossed.
I’m off to eat breakfast and then try to work on my research paper. I only have a few months left to get the paper out for publication before I head back to work, and it needs A LOT of editing before then, especially considering I am starting with 58 pages that needs to be cut back to around 12.
Yoga is really wonderful! There’s a workout clothing store near me called Lululemon (silly, I know) that offers a free one-hour yoga class every Sunday morning. I keep meaning to go, even bought myself a mat. Maybe when they change from this months bikram yoga, where they put the heat up really high so you sweat a lot. Not relaxing in my book! Until then I should at least use the yoga DVD I bought a while ago. It’s pretty good, considering. I hope the classes continue to help you find your “happy place”! And I hope that Jaden is feeling better soon, so you can all get a good night’s sleep!
I knew you were having a number of bad days. Hopefully they will soon be behind you. Poor Jaden is having such a hard time cutting his molars, his eczema and his hives. Hopefully Jaden will get back into his sleeping routine soon and everyone will feel a lot better. Wish I was there to help you out!!! Love ya, Grandma/Mom
