You know you’ve had a rough night when…

… you wake up (for the hundredth time) at 4:30 a.m. and think “Wow, we slept an entire HOUR that time!”

…which is exactly what happened last night. I was up every 20-30 minutes, all night long. It was a nightmare. Maybe those two hour naps during the day are killing Jaden’s ability to sleep at night. There’s something about day vs. night that makes Jaden want to be up more at night- or maybe it is just because he knows after 2 hours of sleep he can get up during the day, but we’ll put him back to bed at night. Dunno. I just know I gotta get some more sleep!!!

My friend and her son came to visit yesterday. Her son has a name that also starts with J. He is about 5 months younger than Jaden. What a cutie he is. He was so good – and he let Jaden explore all of his clothes without making a fuss. Of course, Jaden wanted to go full at him, but Jaden can be a bit rough (we assume this is a by-product of playing with a 9 year old foster brother), so I was worried he might get too excited and the little J would get hurt. It was great to have some adult company for a while. The weather has been so crummy that we haven’t even been out on our afternoon walks, so I have been getting a little ‘house crazy.’ Having someone here with me to share the afternoon made all the difference in the world. We’ll have to plan for more of these ‘play dates.’

It was fun to see what Jaden might have been like at 5.5 months old. He was that age just before we received the referral, and it was about at that age when the pictures on the ‘referral’ tab, above, were taken in South Korea. My friend commented on how smart Jaden is. It’s nice to hear, because during the times when I think to myself “he’s so smart”, I then question my ability to see clearly. Is he really that bright, or am I just seeing him through my parental bias? Probably a bit of both. :-)
